The North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra (founded in 1993) can tailor a big-band jazz concert that will appeal to your community and audience. Our 18-musician jazz orchestra, which includes a vocalist, maintains a library of music spanning from the 1920s to the present day. We can appeal to big-band-sound lovers with our Big Band Cavalcade or Jazz Royalty programs. Audiences also enjoy our Jazz Orchestra Renaissance program.

Big Band Cavalcade

During the Swing Era, the jazz orchestras of Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Jimmie Lunceford, Woody Herman, and Stan Kenton sold millions of records to people both young and old. Expect a night of your favorites including King Porter, April in Paris, Swanee, Satin Doll, In The Mood, My Blue Heaven, Woodchopper’s Ball, Intermission Riff, and others!

Jazz Royalty

Imagine a concert that features the music of the KING of SWING Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington aka the DUKE, and the COUNT of SWING, Count Basie.

This program features such American music treasures as Take the ‘A’ Train, April in Paris, Let’s Dance, Satin Doll, Jumpin’ at the Woodside, and King Porter Stomp.

Jazz Orchestra Renaissance

The Big Band Era officially ended in 1946, but big-band jazz is still a global phenomenon in the 21st century, celebrating the brilliance of modern composers and arrangers.  Our Jazz Orchestra Renaissance concert features music from the orchestras of Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Thad Jones, Gil Evans, Maria Schneider, and many new composers and arrangers.
